Getting to Stonehenge and Salisbury

Salisbury and Stonehenge are located in the South of England and are well served by road and rail links to all parts of the country. We can offer you assistance in getting here by whatever means of transport you prefer.

Trains from London to Salisbury or Stonehenge.
The nearest railway station to Stonehenge is Salisbury. The trains leave from London Waterloo. You can also buy tickets on the day and you must buy them before you get on the train or you may be fined. Always ask for the cheapest return fare. If there are 3 or 4 of you travelling off peak ask for a Group Save fare as it's a lot cheaper.
Trains run approximately every half hour during week days. The journey time is just over 1 hour and 20 minutes. There are taxis at the railway station to take you to your hotel.

There is a National Express direct coach from Heathrow Airport to Salisbury 3 times a day, but the journey is long, slow, and very tedious. In the UK most longer journeys are done by train which is a much more pleasant and reliable way to travel. There is a bus service to the nearest railway station - Woking - and services run every half hour or so.

By Car
If you are hiring a car, most hotels in the city centre do not have car parking. If you want to check with us before booking, just Contact Us. There are several car parks in the city and we can send you details.

Salisbury has a number of well signposted car parks, however it is a busy city and it can occasionally be frustrating finding a space. Please be aware that the car parks all require payment and you should not park in the city, in any circumstances, without buying a ticket. Salisbury has Parking Ambassadors (yes, they really are called that) who will issue you with a ticket for failing to pay the correct parking charge.

If you are travelling to Salisbury by car on a day trip, try using the Park and Ride service. There are 5 parking areas on the edge of the city, all of which are well signposted and can be found marked on this map. Parking costs £3.50 for all day and this fee also provides tickets for up to 4 passengers to ride in to the city and back on the bus. Buses run every 10-20 minutes depending on the time of day and it is sometimes quicker as they have some priority bus lanes to by pass jams. A number of our overseas visitors ask the meaning of many of our road signs. While we're happy to explain we feel that you may wish to acclimatise yourself with the road signs before arrival and so please visit the official UK Government website which provides a comprehensive list of our road signs. If you hire a car, take the option of a Sat Nav as it will take much of the stress out of route planning. If you want to check routes before you get here try using Mappy. It gives estimated times of journeys as well. Never under estimate how long it takes to travel even relatively short distances!
